UBCO security guard death investigated as homicide

Harmandeep Kaur, a 24-year-old security guard working at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus (UBCO), died last weekend as the result of an alleged assault.
The death is being investigated by the RCMP as a homicide and a male was arrested under the Mental Health Act following the incident.
According to reports, Kaur moved to Canada from India in 2015 and had recently received her permanent residence status. Kaur was working in a security role to save money for further education, and was considering training as a paramedic.
Kaur’s family has established a fund-raising page in her name.
