Target names GM executive as chief risk, compliance officer

News Retail Risk Management targetTarget Corp. has named a General Motors executive to be chief risk and compliance officer as the retailer continues to overhaul its security department in the wake of last year's massive data breach.
The Minneapolis-based company said Jacqueline Hourigan Rice will join Target Dec. 1 as a senior vice-president. Rice had most recently been chief compliance officer at the Detroit automaker.
Rice partly succeeds Ann Scovil, who retired in March as vice-president of assurance, risk and compliance. But Rice fills a new and expanded role to include responsibility for corporate security and its suppliers. Unlike Scovil, Rice will report directly to Target’s CEO, Brian Cornell, who took over in August.
Target has been overhauling its security department as it tries to put last year’s pre-Christmas data breach behind it.
In June, Target named Brad Maiorino as chief information security officer. He also had been with General Motors. He reports directly to Bob DeRodes, who was named Target’s new executive vice-president and chief information officer in April. DeRodes, who has 40 years of experience, replaced Beth Jacob, who abruptly left in March.
