The airline said the passenger was arrested after the plane returned to Pearson airport at about 9 a.m.
Sunwing flight 772 left Toronto at 7 a.m. with 183 passengers and a crew of six.
The aircraft turned around approximately 45 minutes into the flight over West Virginia.
Sunwing says it will be doing a full security inspection of the plane before returning it to service.
