Canadian Security magazine is pleased to announce that Todd Milne, Director of Security Operations, University Health Network, has been named Security Director of the Year 2015.

The Security Director of the Year award, sponsored by Anixter Canada, is presented to senior security professionals who have demonstrated an exemplary work ethic and superior leadership skills.

A winner is chosen each year by Canadian Security magazine’s editorial advisory board. This year, Milne was chosen based on his commitment to security, his work in supporting and promoting the profession through groups like the International Association for Health-care Security and Safety (IAHSS) and ASIS International, his mentorship of up-and-coming security professionals, and his ability to manage detailed and complex security projects within his own organization.

“I get a sense of fulfillment, and it gives me great pride when I see one of my members or a colleague achieve their goals,” says Milne.

“Todd’s the guy who, if he’s not leading at his hospital, he’s leading through the industry and through the IAHSS, being active and participating and volunteering his time to help set standards. He’s the first guy to respond if another hospital has a question about a security challenge,” says Scott Jupp, Ontario chapter chair for IAHSS.

Most recently, Milne has been responsible for developing a communications centre at Toronto’s UHN, which will unify physical security, life safety and communications systems across five separate locations.

Milne will receive his award at a gala celebration on Oct. 21 in Toronto. He will be the 10th security director to be recognized by Canadian Security magazine.
