Security video serves up just desserts in Sask dine and dash

A man and a woman were seen leaving Golf’s Steak House Monday afternoon before covering their $90 tab.

Management posted their image on social media, then got word Thursday that the couple had been spotted in another Regina restaurant.

Police were called to that location and officers took the pair to Golf’s, where the woman apologized and the couple paid what they could of their outstanding debt.

Maria Lang, a Golf’s spokeswoman, says they won’t be pressing charges.

She says they just want to shed light on the problem of diners who dash.

Restaurants Canada, the industry’s association, is giving a thumbs-up to Golf’s actions.

Dwayne Marling, vice-president for Manitoba and Saskatchewan, says restaurants operate on tight margins.

“Anytime you experience a loss like this it’s going to reflect upon the viability and profitability of the restaurant. Anything that can reduce a crime of this type, and make no mistake it’s a crime, is a good thing.”

Marling also says he thinks it’s much better to post the video than have an employee injured trying to confront a fleeing customer.

Regina police are not objecting to posting pictures on social media, but suggest it’s worthwhile to contact them as well.
