A major U.S. hotel operator is investigating a reported breach of customer information.

A spokeswoman for Merrillville-based White Lodging told The (Munster) Times in a statement Saturday that an investigation into the reported breach is underway. She provided no further details.

Cybersecurity blogger Brian Krebs first reported the breach Friday on his website krebsonsecurity.com. He says the breach involved credit and debit card information on thousands of guests at Marriott hotels since March 23, 2013.

Marriott International has issued a statement saying White Lodging “experienced unusual fraud patterns in connection with its systems that process credit card transactions.” Marriott says White Lodging is “in close contact with the banks and credit card companies.”

White Lodging manages 168 hotels under various brands in 21 states.
