Canadian wins U.S. school security award

At it’s 43rd Annual Conference hosted by the City of Miami Police Department and the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department in Miami, Fla., July 8-11, NASSLEO President , Mr. Larry Borland and President Elect, Mr. Augustine Pescatore, awarded the 2012 National Association of School Safety and Law Enforcement Officials President’s Award to Mr. Minaz Jivraj, School Security and Safety Officer with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board in Mississauga, Ont.

Borland, in awarding the plaque, stated that Mr. Jivraj was“.. (for) the most contributing member of NASSLEO 2012. You have demonstrated commitment to the cause and always a leader in school safety. Without your professionalism and positive attitude, this year’s conference and scholarship awards would not have been possible. Thanks for who you are and what you do. Presented in the City of Miami, Florida this 10th Day of July, 2012”

The National Association of School Safety and Law Enforcement Officials was founded in 1969, and is the oldest national organization dedicated to assisting school administrators and law enforcement organizations in developing and maintaining safe schools. In fact, NASSLEO was in existence long before school violence and other school safety issues were making headlines.

NASSLEO is a nonprofit organization whose members are composed of Chief of School Police, Directors of Security & Safety, School Police Officers, School Security Officers, School Resource Officers, School Educators and Administrators, School Security Consultants or any person whose primary occupation is school safety, security or police.
