Canadian Security is pleased to announce Hi Nguyen as the recipient of the Community Leader Award for 2023.

Nguyen is currently the director of protection services at the University of Ottawa and the principal of Team Up Leadership Consulting.

Nguyen is also a certified leadership coach and a former RCMP officer with more than 15 years experience in investigations, close protection, national security and counter-terrorism.

Nguyen first got involved in policing as a direct response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and from a desire to get involved and do more. Now, as a corporate security professional, he focuses his attention on team-building, teaching leadership skills, and encouraging frontline security and police to develop professionally and build their confidence.

During the pandemic, Nguyen, still a relative newcomer to campus security, created a leadership network for other campus security professionals to share best practices, connect with peers and problem-solve together. Nguyen was recognized for his contributions to campus security by the Ontario Association of College and University Security Administrators (OACUSA) with an Award of Excellence earlier this year.

Nguyen will receive his Community Leader Award at a Canadian Security Honours gala event on Oct. 17. You can read more about Hi Nguyen in the fall issue of Canadian Security, available in October.

About Canadian Security Honours:

Canadian Security first launched its awards program honouring lifetime achievers, community leaders and emerging professionals in 2018 to help celebrate the magazine’s 40th anniversary. The program, known today as Canadian Security Honours, is an ongoing recognition program under the Canadian Security umbrella. Canadian Security will host an awards gala on Oct. 17 to acknowledge this year’s winners as well as the 2023 Security Director of the Year, our longest-running award program (17 years and counting), which recognizes senior security leaders across Canada.
