According to a statement from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Information Commissioner Caroline Maynard has been appointed Interim Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Maynard’s term officially began on June 4 and was made under Section 55 of the Privacy Act, which allows the Information Commissioner to also exercise the duties of the Privacy Commissioner.
Maynard will hold the position until Oct. 31 unless a new privacy commissioner is appointed prior to that date. Maynard will continue in her duties as Information Commissioner, a position she has held since March 2018.
Outgoing commissioner Daniel Therrien recently completed his term in office, having served since 2014.
