With the holidays upon us, retailers can expect to see their stores filled with people buying gifts for friends and family. But potential fraudsters view this as their own time to rejoice. We ask loss prevention experts for their advice on how to make this a safe shopping season

While I agree with most points in the video, I don't agree with the quote" that most retail theft is planned". It is true in Loss prevention,that there is an ORC ( organized retail crime ) component as well as thieves motivated by social-economic issues, both groups that would "plan" thefts, but in my experience most retail thefts are crimes of "opportunity " ie: showcase was found unlocked, fitting rooms have no attendants etc . While the amateur or opportunistic may "plan" to try and shoplift, the likelihood of them casing a store, looking for loss prevention, defeating tags and other security devices , which takes "planning", is not something typically found in this shoplifter profile..
