TORONTO – A teenager charged in a deadly attack at a Toronto massage parlour has seen his charges updated to be considered acts of terrorism.

The accused was originally charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder on Feb. 24 following multiple stabbings at an adult massage parlour in the city’s north end.

A 24-year-old woman, Ashley Noelle Arzaga, was found dead at the scene after police arrived.

Toronto Police Service contacted the RCMP shortly after the incident, when they allegedly found evidence the accused was inspired by the so-called “incel movement” – a fringe internet subculture.

The accused – who cannot be named because of his age – appeared in court via video on Tuesday to face the updated charges.

Police say the attack appears to have been an isolated incident and there is no further known threat to the public associated with the accused.
