Security guard attacked by shoplifter

Vancouver police say the 37-year-old Coquitlam man was slashed late yesterday afternoon when he tried to stop a woman leaving a store (in the Kingsgate Mall on Kingsway) and she lashed out with a knife.

A witness followed the suspect and alerted police, who arrested the 29-year-old Vancouver resident a short time later.

She faces weapons-related and aggravated assault charges while the security guard remains in hospital in stable condition.
