News K-12 high school security guards stabbing

VICTORIA – Security and education experts say metal detectors, security guards and airport-style scanners are not needed at British Columbia schools following a deadly stabbing at a Fraser Valley high school.

Threat assessment expert Theresa Campbell says she’s hearing many panicked voices from parents who want to protect their kids at school, but she reminds them this week’s incident was extremely rare.

She says in most violent incidents at schools, attackers have what she calls psychological fusion with the victims or the building, but in this case the attacker did not know the victims or was not connected to the school as a past student or employee.

Police and school district officials say a barefoot man walked into Abbotsford Senior Secondary School on Tuesday and attacked two girls before staff confronted and restrained him.

Police have not identified the female victim, but friends identify her as Letisha Reimer.
