To better manage growing demand on public safety services, Halton Regional Police Service created a new police analytics unit with a mandate to exploit data to make policing more efficient and effective. Working with Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure, the police department deployed Hexagon's Intergraph Business Intelligence for Public Safety and built a data warehouse that consolidated data from various sources.

All police data for Halton Region, located just west of Toronto, is now processed through the system. Each individual action performed by officers is time-stamped and classified based on the nature of the activity. The data is analyzed to enable proactive and preventative operations. Armed with monthly, quarterly and annual performance measures, the agency quantifies officer activities, allowing supervisors to better determine how to allocate teams to improve public safety.

“Hexagon’s Intergraph Business Intelligence for Public Safety product is a key component of our analytical infrastructure. It provides the raw materials that our analysts turn into actionable insights that support the service,” said police analytics coordinator Joseph Glover, Halton Regional Police Service.

The Halton Regional Police Service has been awarded a Data+ Editors’ Choice Award by a U.S. business technology magazine, Computerworld, with for its implementation of Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure software. This award recognizes innovative big data initiatives that have delivered significant business value.

This is the second award the Service has won for the software this year. The first was an ICON Award from Hexagon.
