HALIFAX — Inadequate passwords and insufficient technical controls led to video surveillance images of Cape Breton schoolchildren being live streamed on the internet, Nova Scotia's information and privacy commissioner says.

MONTERREY, Mexico — A 15-year-old student opened fire with a gun at a private school in the northern Mexican city of Monterrey on Wednesday, seriously wounding himself, a teacher and three other students, state officials said.
The Halifax Regional School Board says it has hired security guards for 15 schools due to concerns about students arriving early who wouldn’t be supervised, as teachers begin their work-to-rule job action.
College campuses in Nova Scotia and schools in P.E.I. were evacuated on Sept. 21 due to bomb threats received by fax. After searching the affected buildings at Nova Scotia Community College, police concluded the threats were “not credible,” CBC News reported. The threats to P.E.I. schools were also deemed “not credible.”
Monday was a busy day for police and schools in two parts of Regina. First, Winston Knoll Collegiate was the subject of a bomb threat on April 25. Students were sent to nearby Riffel High School, which was placed in "secure-the-building" mode, according to a story by the Regina Leader Post.
According to a CTV news report, Steinbach Regional Secondary School has received board approval to hire a security guard to provide additional safety for its 1,700 students.
MONTREAL — Quebec's acting public security minister says an emailed threat to schools in many parts of the province led to closures, bomb sweeps and a beefed up police presence on Tuesday.
