Newfoundland police warn of home security scam

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says it has recently received several reports from about someone making false claims while trying to sell home-security systems.
Police say homeowners have been provided with false statistics about break-ins, and have been led to believe the alarm systems being offered are directly linked to the police station.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has issued an advisory saying it has no contracts with home-security firms.
It says homeowners approached by door-to-door salespeople should ask for official identification and contact the vendor directly.
