NHLPA deploys Darktrace’s AI technology

Darktrace recently announced that the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) has deployed its Enterprise Immune System to protect the sensitive personal information of its 750 members across Canada and the U.S.
The NHLPA is the union of professional hockey players. Its network hosts sensitive data such as hockey players’ personal information and confidential contract details. Safeguarding this data from cyber threats is a priority, says the organization.
The NHLPA chose to deploy Darktrace’s AI technology, which detects and autonomously responds to emerging attacks, including ransomware, insider threat, ‘low and slow’ attacks and new threats.
“With the prevalence of sophisticated external and insider threats, we knew we had to take a fundamentally different approach to cybersecurity,” said Stephen Frank, director of technology and security, NHLPA. “Darktrace’s AI technology catches the threats other tools miss and has enabled us to take our cyber resilience to the next level. With the Enterprise Immune System, we can assure our members that their information is fully protected.”
Modeled after the human immune system, the Enterprise Immune System uses AI algorithms to learn the ‘pattern of life’ for every user and device on a network. This understanding of what constitutes ‘normal’ enables the technology to detect threats. The Enterprise Immune System can also take autonomous action to stop or slow down in-progress attacks.
