Ministers’ staffers compromising security in regional offices

Staff working in some ministers’ regional offices outside Ottawa have been creating wireless networks at those locations, compromising security and putting sensitive government information at risk.

Security documents obtained by the Citizen show that IT security officials in the federal Public Works department have routinely rejected requests to install wireless modems in the 16 regional offices the department oversees because it “nullifies the security measures in place.”
