Security agents found an unloaded handgun and 15 rounds of ammunition in a man's carry-on bag as he prepared to board a flight to North Carolina at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo says 30-year-old Jose Fernandez of Jersey City was ticketed to fly to Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday night when TSA agents spotted the .38-calibre pistol as they screened the passenger’s bag.

Fernandez was arrested without incident on a charge of unlawful possession of a weapon.
