News Public SectorASIS International says that Robert M. Gates, 22nd U.S. Secretary of Defense (2006-2011), will address attendees of the ASIS International 58th Annual Seminar and Exhibits (ASIS 2012) on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 8:00 a.m. at the Philadelphia Convention Center.
“Having served eight U.S. presidents in the course of his vast and distinguished career, Secretary Gates offers unparalleled personal insights into U.S. intelligence and defense strategies,” said Eduard J. Emde, CPP, president, ASIS. “His perspectives on global politics and world affairs are particularly relevant to our members and security professionals at large. Seminar attendees always benefit from the high-calibre keynote speakers at ASIS events, and this year’s presentation will certainly be a highlight.”
Gates’ 27-year career as an intelligence professional began in 1966 when he joined the Central Intelligence Agency. It culminated with his serving as director from 1991-1993. He is the only Secretary of Defense in U.S. history to be asked to remain in that office by a newly-elected President.
