Emergency Preparedness Week, held the first full week of May, is supported by Public Safety Canada and has run annually for more than 25 years.

The theme of this year’s event is “Be ready for anything.” According to the Government of Canada website dedicated to Emergency Preparedness Week: “The intent of this theme is to encourage Canadians to take action to become better prepared for the range of emergencies they could face in their region.”

This year, the campaign includes a social media challenge. Canadians are invited to share a tip or picture of themselves demonstrating how they can effectively prepare themselves for  emergency situations. Participants are encouraged to use the hashtag #ReadyforAnything and may have the chance to win an emergency preparedness kit. Rules and eligibility are available on the government website, along with a list of further resources, such as how to assemble an emergency kit.
