Emergency Preparedness Week, traditionally held the first full week in May, is now underway with support from Public Safety Canada.

The annual event, which has been running for more than 25 years,  includes a variety of public safety organizations — such as provincial, Indigenous and private sector groups — who all support the initiative with activities and information-sharing.

According to the Public Safety Canada web page dedicated to Emergency Preparedness Week, the theme this year is “Be Ready for Anything.”

“The intent of this theme is to encourage Canadians to take action to become better prepared for the range of emergencies they could face in their region,” states Public Safety Canada.

The department is encouraging Canadians to get involved by sharing their own emergency management tips via a video or social post with the hashtag #ReadyforAnything. Participants may also be selected to receive Canadian Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Kits in a contest giveaway.

Contest details, as well as additional emergency preparedness tips, are available on the website.
