
Edmonton rec centre security worries councillors

News CampusAs Edmonton police continue to petition for more resources, one city councillor is suggesting a different approach to tackling crime in and around the city's recreation centres.
“We have focused most of our recreation now on these big mega-centres, is it time to put security guards in? Because cops are expensive and they show up to a lot of these things,” said Coun. Mike Nickel, responding to statistics obtained through freedom of information requests that point to increased crime numbers at some of the city’s busiest rec centres.
