The Executive Director of Integrated Protection Services for Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, Provincial Health Services Authority and Providence Health Care in the Lower Mainland of B.C. has been named the 2010 Security Director of the Year.

After consideration of all the candidates nominated from January to the end of May via the Canadian Security website nomination form, the Canadian Security editorial advisory board selected
Don MacAlister for the honour. MacAlister manages an extensive portfolio that includes four regional
health care authorities in British Columbia. He has been with Fraser
Health for 16 years — 14 years as Director of Protection Services.

Currently migrating the health authority’s existing CCTV systems to an
IP platform, within the last year he has led an initiative where
security, parking, photo ID, electronic security systems and other
security systems have been consolidated under one model.

MacAlister
has responsibility for managing a budget approaching $50
million.

Sponsored by Anixter Canada, the Canadian Security Director of
the Year is in its fifth year. The winner will be honoured at a security industry dinner
held in Toronto this October.

The judges cited MacAlister’s depth and breadth of portfolio, his leadership qualities and contribution to the further education of his staff as key components to his selection as Security Director of the Year.
