Cameras coming to some BC Transit buses

News Transportation bc transitCameras are expected to be rolling out on some of the 1,000 BC Transit buses outside of Metro Vancouver by next spring.
BC Transit spokeswoman Meribeth Burton says the goal for the cameras is to minimize risk to drivers and passengers.
Burton says the cameras are not the complete solution to improving bus security, but are another tool.
While many of the newer buses in the Central Okanagan are equipped with the skeleton of camera surveillance systems, there are no cameras inside, and passengers on a bus where a man was stabbed to death helped police identify a suspect.
Caesar Rosales died on a transit bus in Kelowna, B.C., last Thursday night and days later police announced they had charged 24-year-old Tyler Newton with second-degree murder.
Burton says there has been an appetite in the larger centres to have the camera equipment, and BC Transit will be looking for a vender for the camera service by the end of this year. (Kelowna Daily Courier)
