Billy Bishop Airport ferries ramp up security measures

News Transportation airport security billy bishop airport ferryAccording to several reports, Billy Bishop Airport, based in Toronto, will add security measures to the ferries that take passengers to and from the airport terminal. A CBC story states that the extra screening is not expected to result in longer wait times, according to security staff. Extra measures will include random swabs of passenger luggage and belongings to screen for potential explosive devices.
According to the CBC article:
“It’s not a significant measure in terms of time or effort,” said Deborah Wilson of PortsToronto, which manages Billy Bishop airport.
Transport Canada introduced new guidelines in 2010 that require the operators of “certain domestic ferry facilities” to establish safety protocols to prevent threats to ferries and terminals.
PortsToronto says it was only recently informed that the airport ferry was being added to the list.
