ASIS International recently announced the availability of its Associate Protection Professional (APP) designation.

According to the ASIS website, “ASIS developed this certification program to provide the first ‘rung’ on the security manager’s career ladder.”

This certification is provided in addition to ASIS’s established CPP, PCI and PSP designations, however is available to security professionals much earlier in their careers. Whereas the CPP (certified protection professional) requires a minimum of seven years relevant work experience, the APP will require one to four, depending on the candidate’s educational qualifications (Master’s or Bachelor’s degree). The APP exam will be beta tested this December.

Canadian Security first learned of the APP through ASIS Young Professionals committee member Michael Brzozowski, who helped to spearhead the initiative. Brzozowski was recently recognized for his contributions to security with Canadian Security’sEmerging Leader Award.”
