Antivirus software becoming less effective

Some Internet security experts are warning that antivirus technology is becoming less and less effective at protecting devices, as hackers focus their efforts on fooling the user, CBC News reports."

One source quoted by CBC News says it’s now believed that antivirus software protects against less than 10 per cent of threats because of the tactics of cyber criminals.

The CBC News report also highlights the work of Concordia University professor Mohammad Mannan, who notes that some antivirus and parental control software packages bypass some security features built into internet browsers to verify whether sites are safe or not in order to be able to scan encrypted connections for potential threats.
