Bridging the gap between security and fire and life safety
In an emergency, many security department personnel wouldn't know how to operate the fire safety equipment in their facilities or how to manage the evacuation of a building in the event of a fire or other incident. From basic fire extinguishers to fire phones, sprinklers, pull stations and standpipe hoses it's all pretty much a mystery to many in the security department. But it doesn't have to be that way. Cadillac Fairview has developed a half-day "Reality-Based Building Evacuation" training program designed specifically for building security and operations personnel. Canadian Security went along with the Cadillac Fairview team as they were put through their paces going down a simulated smoke-filled stairwell and learning how to manage fire safety equipment.

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority will announce the new screening contracts for Canada's airports in August. So what will the winners be expected to deliver and how will they be measured under CATSA's new model?
