Malicious hacking has become a big business. In the case of advanced persistent threats, the hacker’s presence remains unknown and undetected by the company’s IT or security team for an extended period of time. The purpose of APTs is to access a company’s servers and workstations and extract confidential data, such as usernames and passwords, and user created content such as spreadsheets, accounting software databases, CRM databases or ERP databases. John Peterson of Comodo suggests this five-step approach to combat APTs.
