CATSA offers apology for flight refusal

News TransportationTERRACE, B.C. - An official with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority says a "big mistake" was made when a retired BC social worker was prevented from boarding his flight because the all-female security crew refused to frisk him.
Robert Hart has an artificial hip that set off the metal detector at airport security but was not allowed to board his flight in late July.
His flight to a family wedding in Ontario was delayed until a male officer arrived for a later shift.
He complained to CATSA, which quickly investigated and found that his concern was justified.
Mathieu Larocque says the officers made a big mistake and airports across the country have been reminded there are procedures to have passengers screened when there are no same-sex officers.
He says CATSA has apologized to Hart and are inviting him to file a compensation claim for any money he may be out of pocket because of the mix-up.
