A union leader wants St. Joseph’s hospital in Hamilton, Ont., to change its procedures after a registered practical nurse was attacked by a patient in the schizophrenia unit on July 29.

Domenic DiPasquale, president of CUPE Local 786, told the Hamilton Spectator that a registered practical nurse was groped and tackled by a patient. The hospital confirmed that an incident had occurred, and said it will review procedures.

DiPasquale told the newspaper he hopes that security teams will begin hallway patrols at this St. Joseph’s site, as they do at the hospital’s Charlton site.
