2007 Security Director of the Year competition

Written by  Jennifer Brown January 10, 2007
It’s often said that security directors are doing their job well if no one is talking about them or their department. Senior-level security professionals work daily to plan for the unexpected, but even in a crisis, the best are typically working hard behind the scenes and receive very little glory for a job well done.

With responsibility for a growing list of people and assets, the job of managing a security department is one that demands not only a background in security, but also vital people skills as well as significant business and technological savvy.

Individuals given the task of formulating and executing a vision for an organization’s security department have a huge responsibility and we think they deserve to be recognized, especially those that go above and beyond to create an environment that is safe and secure. To that end, Canadian Security Magazine and Anixter are announcing the Second Annual Security Director of the Year award. We want to find the individual who best exemplifies leadership and vision in the world of corporate security.

The person selected by Canadian Security’s editorial advisory board as Security Director of the Year for 2007 will be profiled in the September 2007 issue of Canadian Security Magazine and receive an award.

To do this we need to hear from you about the person you believe demonstrates the skills that personify what today’s environment demands from a top security director. Do you work with someone who motivates and mentors his or her staff and provides inspiration on the job? Or, do you know a colleague who has completed a unique initiative that has produced benefit not only to the security department but the entire company? Let us know. We are asking for specific criteria that will aid the judges in determining the winner. Please click here to go to the nomination form.

Submissions will be accepted until May 31. The competition is open to security directors and managers across Canada from both the private and public sector. Nominees should be the top security professional in his or her organization. If you nominated a person last year but they were not chosen, please consider putting their name forward again.
