The Identity, Privacy, and Security Institute (IPSI) at the University of Toronto, in association with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, will hold the first SmartData International Symposium later this month.
The Security Industry Association's (SIA)  Securing New Ground Annual Report is now available through the SIA online bookstore. The SNG Annual Report is a 350-page compendium of new primary research and market information. The information ranges from financial and transaction information to technology, market and customer trends.
AFI International Group and IMAC have created a portal providing a full range of security training courses — everything from weapons training to media training.
Security professionals from around industry attended the annual Security Director of the Year awards dinner, sponsored by Anixter. This year's guest of honour was Don MacAlister, Fraser Health Authority.

Compensation, particularly at the entry level, continues to be top of mind for Canadians working in security, according to the annual Canadian Security Salary Survey, but long time professionals indicate that the best earning security jobs are reserved for those with a commitment to continuous education.
The Private Security and Investigative Services Branch (PSISB) is granting a 30-day extension to guards, agencies and businesses with licences expiring between June 14, 2010 to June 30, 2010.

The Special Constable Service of Wilfrid Laurier University has been recognized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police with its Excellence in Technology Award for 2010.

The Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services provided a status update on April 15, the day new regulations come into force, regarding training and testing for security guards and private investigators.

In less than four weeks, Drive Test centres across Ontario will start providing testing for security guards and private investigators. But if they fail, they won’t know what they got wrong or by how much they failed the test.
