Compression technology makes long-term video storage viable

Honeywell’s HRSD Series digital video recorder (DVR) features the vendor’s proprietary XtraStor compression technology, which it says provides more storage on smaller media without sacrificing image quality.

The DVR, designed for retail, financial and security applications, records at a rate of up to 120/100 ips NTSC/PAL, and supports configurable ips per camera and other high-end recording capabilities to capture and provide long-term storage of video, text, and audio.

According to the vendor, clip/copy functions and multiple search engines make it easy to transfer and locate video evidence. A viewer executable is included with each clip, eliminating the need to install a viewer separately to the evidence viewing PC.

Users can configure and download software updates to remote DVRs from a central site. As well, when combined with an external interface/filter device such as SmartPIT (a smart protocol interface translator that is used as an interface for ATM, POS , ECR or PTZ domes for Bossware and MAX protocol enabled systems such as VideoBloX and MAXPRO-Net) the HRSD Series can record POS and ATM transaction text data in addition to audio and video.
