IAHSS responds to hospital violence

On Feb. 22, it was reported that an employee at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, Conn., shot two of his supervisors after a disciplinary incident, authorities said. The victims were in serious but stable condition after the shooting, and the suspect was later arrested at his home, said a hospital spokesperson in an article published by CNN.com. International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) President Bryan Warren, CHPA, CPO-I, issued the following statement in response to the shooting:

The Toronto Chapter of ASIS International held its 2012 elections on Nov. 17 following its annual security summit, which was held at the Scarborough campus of the University of Toronto.
The deadline is fast approaching for submissions to ASIS Toronto’s annual Security Practitioner Awards.
This year’s conference will be held May 25 and 26 at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino in Calgary, Alberta. The theme this year is ‘Back to the Basics’.

APSA hires executive director

The Association representing professional security agencies across Canada has hired an executive director to help give it a stronger voice when dealing with government.
ISC Solutions will be merging with Securing New Ground in 2011, bringing both events together to form Security Week in New York City Nov. 1-4.
To anyone who thinks investigating white collar crime is just a matter of “going through the books,” the job might seem a little dull. But the members of the Association of Certified Forensic Investigators would probably disagree. Sheree Mann, association president, knows you can never be sure where an investigation will take you.

APSA names guard of the year
